In my Global LGBT Art and Culture class, our assignment is to pick a region of the world to focus on and a topic to do a presentation and ‘teach-in’ discussion about (I’m going to do a music video presentation). I decided to focus on music with queer content and/or by queer artists (meaning, LGBTQ, gender-transgressive dress, homoeroticism, and so on) in Europe, with a particular focus on the UK (since I have been able to find more information and already know a lot about British music from this time period) in the 80s and 90s. What should I absolutely not leave out? Suggestions of artists who are known to be heterosexual or whose sexuality is speculated over is ok too so long as there is a connection with queer content. Some of what I’ve been thinking about: Soft Cell, Pete Shelley, Pet Shop Boys, The Smiths, Klaus Nomi (Germany)…
Oh.
This is what happened when I started to do research for my queer music history project…
this is hands down my favourite photo of Johnny Marr
I’ve never seen this before! :D
